Why I Made FBAR Arcade
Older fba4droid, afba, Android arcade emulators were some of the easiest emulators to use. You could install one, point it to your games folder and start playing. There was something nice about that simplicity.
Over time, many of those old applications stopped working properly on newer versions of Android. Some were built for very old Android APIs, some struggled with modern storage restrictions, and others simply stopped receiving updates.
That is where the idea for FBAR started.
I wanted to see if I could bring back the classic FBA-style Android experience and update the important parts for modern devices.
FBAR is not a commercial product. It is a personal hobby project built because I enjoy arcade games, emulation and Android development.

How to Use FBAR Arcade
If you have used an arcade emulator before, getting started with FBAR should feel quite familiar. The basic setup only takes a few steps.
1. Download and Install FBAR
First, download the latest available FBAR Arcade APK from the official GitHub repository.
After downloading the APK, install it on your Android device. Depending on your Android version and security settings, you may need to allow installation from the browser or file manager you used to download the APK.
2. Prepare Your ROM Folder
FBAR doesnt uses a dedicated arcade ROM directory. you can put games rom anywhere you want in your stroge
But it do have a emulator directory which store its preferance and mods, and biosproject documentation uses the following location:
/sdcard/fbaor
/stroge/fba
A simple folder structure can look like this:
/sdcard/fba/
game1.zip
game2.zip
game3.zip
Keep your compatible arcade ROM files inside this folder. For ZIP-based arcade ROM sets, you normally do not need to extract them unless a particular game requires a different file arrangement.
3. Select the ROM Folder
Open FBAR and select the folder where your arcade ROMs are stored.
Modern versions of Android use stricter storage permissions than older versions, so Android may display a folder-access prompt. Simply select the ROM directory and allow FBAR to access it.
4. Choose a Game
After the ROM folder is available to FBAR, browse through the available games and select the title you want to launch.
If a game does not start, the first thing to check is whether you are using the correct ROM set and whether all required files are present.
5. Configure the Controls
You can play using the touchscreen controls, but a physical controller can make a huge difference for certain arcade games.
Fighting games in particular are usually much easier to control with real buttons, especially when performing quick directional inputs and multi-button combinations.
6. Insert Credit and Start Playing
Arcade games traditionally require a virtual coin or credit before the game begins. Use the mapped Coin and Start controls and you are ready to play.
That simple coin-and-start experience is one of the things that makes arcade emulation different from playing many traditional console games.
FBAR Arcade app
The current public release is FBAR Arcade v1.0.0.
This release focuses on improving the overall experience and refining the emulator rather than simply adding a long list of flashy options.
Some of the main improvements include better emulator stability, frontend refinements, improved game launching and navigation, performance and compatibility improvements, internal cleanup and various smaller bug fixes.
The release also includes improvements to netplay connection and synchronization. Netplay is still being tested and refined, so users should expect further changes as development continues.
Another notable change is the removal of telemetry and unnecessary code, keeping the application focused on its main purpose: arcade emulation.
Can FBAR Play Neo Geo Games?
Yes. Neo Geo is one of the main arcade platforms targeted by FBAR.
That makes FBAR interesting for fans of classic SNK arcade games, including the many fighting games and action titles that became famous in arcades and on Neo Geo hardware.
The same applies to Capcom's CPS1, CPS2 and CPS3 platforms, which are also among the systems targeted by the project.
Can FBAR Play CPS1, CPS2 and CPS3 Games?
FBAR targets CPS1, CPS2 and CPS3 arcade titles.
These systems were responsible for many well-known 2D arcade games, especially fighting, action and scrolling titles. For retro arcade fans, that alone gives FBAR a lot of interesting games to explore.
As always, the exact result depends on the specific game and compatible ROM set.
Does FBAR Include ROMs?
No. FBAR does not include copyrighted commercial ROM collections or BIOS files.
The emulator software and the game files are separate. You are responsible for obtaining and using ROMs and BIOS files legally in accordance with the laws applicable to you.
Please do not upload copyrighted ROM files to the FBAR project or use this website as a place to distribute them.
Is FBAR an Official FinalBurn Emulator?
No. FBAR is an independent hobby project.
It is inspired by the FinalBurn, Finalburn alpha, Finalburn neo ecosystem and older Android arcade emulators such as aFBA, FBA4droid and Kawaks Android, but it is not an official continuation of those projects.
The name FinalBurn Android Reborn reflects the inspiration and goal of the project rather than an official relationship with the original developers.
How to Get Better Performance
Classic arcade games are generally much less demanding than modern 3D Android games, but performance can still vary depending on the game, your device, Android version, CPU, graphics driver and emulator configuration.
If you are having problems, a few simple things are worth checking:
- Make sure the ROM is compatible with the emulator.
- Use a complete and correct ROM set.
- Remove broken or duplicate ROM files.
- Try different display or scaling options if the picture does not look right.
- Close unnecessary background applications on lower-end devices.
